LTS Advances Lehigh University

April sees LTS staff members contributing to the local community and to professional groups around the country. Lehigh also hosted the University Librarians Group from 20+ schools around the country.

Leading off was Senior Systems Specialist Tim McGeary giving two presentations at the annual SirsiDynix SuperConference in Detroit in early April about integrating an open source web catalog interface into the SirsiDynix Unicorn environment. Tim has led the effort of several institutions to accomplish this for VuFind, an interface designed at Villanova University.

Humanities Librarian Kathe Morrow and Library Access Services Director Sharon Wiles-Young organized a community book discussion with the Bethlehem Area Public Library in preparation for the Dalai Lama visit.

The April book discussion focuses on the book Ethics for the New Millennium by the Dalai Lama. More than 60 people attended the first session. For more information, see: http://www.bapl.org/adult programs/dalailamadis.html.

Client Services Director Tim Foley is serving as Chair of the ACM SIGUCCS (Special Interest Group on University and College Computing Services) Spring Management Symposium in Tucson during early April and will also be a member of the closing panel. At the same meeting Technology Management Services Director Roy Gruver is presenting a session with Princeton University and the University of Virginia entitled "Who's on First? Identity Management Challenges and Possible Solutions" and Computing Team Leader Gale Fritsche will present a poster session called "Managing a Growing High Performance Computing Infrastructure on a Fixed Budget."

Tim Foley and Sherri Yerk-Zwickl are giving talks at SunGard's Executive Summit in Anaheim in late April. Tim’s is entitled "Library Resources to Enhance the Student Experience" and Instructional Technology Team Leader Sherri Yerk-Zwickl’s talk is on Web Portals for Prospective Students.
