LTS Advances Lehigh
Twice a year in the LTS
Connection, we take pride in recognizing our departmental
staff who
have contributed to the advancement of Lehigh University
through their publications, presentations, media
contributions and appearances, and other professional
accomplishments.
The ACM SIGUCCS
fall conference in Norfolk, VA in October featured a number
of Lehigh presenters. Gale Fritsche (Team Leader for
Scientific and Desktop Computing) gave a presentation and
led a discussion session on “Windows 7 Planning and
Implementation”.
Johanna Brams
(Senior Instructional Technologist) delivered a presentation
and led a discussion session on Lehigh’s Second Life
implementation.
Stacey
Kimmel-Smith (Leader, LTS Student and General Services Team)
and Steve Sakasitz (Library/Computing Assistant) presented
"It's Not Easy Being Green: Students and the Problem with
Printing“.
At the same
conference, Stacey Kimmel-Smith received a SIGUCCS 2010
Communication Award, “Best of Category for Electronic
How-to-guides” for an LTS-produced instructional video,
“Lehigh Google Apps: A Brief Intro (what you need to know).”
At the Fall
EDUCAUSE annual conference, Johanna Brams presented a paper
entitled “Second Life and Its Real-Life Double: How to Get
Started in a Virtual World, and Why” and Sherri Yerk-Zwickl
(Team Leader, Instructional Technology Consulting Team)
participated as a proposal reviewer for the
Leadership,Governance, and Management track.
In addition,
Sherri facilitated the Blended and Online Learning
Constituent Group Meeting.
Tina Hertel (Help Desk and Web Support Librarian) chaired
the 4-day Pennsylvania Library Association Academy of
Leadership Studies (PALS) geared to developing new library
leaders. At the Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA)
Annual Conference in Lancaster in October, Tina also
presented two sessions: Networking and Personal Branding and
Time Management.
In September,
Tina also delivered the presentation “Whole Lotta Online
Tools in a Short Amount of Time” to the Library Association
of Rockland County, NY and will be making a similar presentation
in December to the Southeast Chapter of the Pennsylvania
Library Association. She will also be featured in the column
'Job of a Lifetime' in the November 2010 issue of College &
Research News (http://crln.acrl.org/);
in October, at the PaLA Annual Conference, she was awarded a
Certificate of Merit for her contributions to PaLA (PA
Library Association).
Sharon
Wiles-Young (Director, Library Access Services) and Judy
McNally,Team (Leader, Library Technical Services)
co-presented at the PaLA Annual Conference on "Cultivating
Technical Services: Pruning and Growing for the Future."
Lehigh was
invited to present on the Digital Archive for Research and
Teaching (DART) pilot for the CONTENTdm Eastern Users Group
at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY on
August 6, 2010.
Judy McNally,
Brian Simboli (Science Librarian), Rob Weidman (Digital
Library Project Coordinator), and Tim McGeary (Leader,
Library Technology Team) gave a panel presentation, “Maiden
Voyage: An IR Pilot with CONTENTdm.”
