LTS Advances Lehigh
LTS staff members are advancing Lehigh University and their
respective professions through publications, service, and
educational presentations at conferences and meetings.
Science Librarian Brian Simboli published a review of the
Web of Science and Knowledge "Citation Mapping" tool in the
summer 2008 Issues in Science and Technology
Librarianship, an open access electronic journal
published by the Association of College & Research
Libraries.
The Web of Science is a major electronic database that
enables citation and subject searching of science, social
science, and arts and humanities literature.
Communications Analyst Monica Weber, has joined
communications provider Paetec's Customer Advisory Board.
Lizanne Hurst, Team Leader for Telecommunications, is
serving as president of the Intecom User’s Group Association
for 2008-2009.
LTS was well represented at EDUCAUSE in October in Orlando.
Sherri Yerk-Zwickl co-presented a session featuring Lehigh's
work on the Enrollment Management CRM project along with
higher education CIOs Edward Kelty of Rio Salado College and
Robert Luikart of Ohio State University College of Food,
Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.
Tim Foley and Gale Fritsche, Client Services Director and
Computing Team Leader respectively, presented on "PGP Whole
Disk Encryption Implementation." Gale also spoke on
"Managing a growing HPC Infrastructure on a Fixed Budget" at
the SIGUCCS Conference in Portland, Oregon and was appointed
treasurer for the ACM SIGUCCS management symposium in spring
2009.
Also during October in Orlando, Distance Education staff
Peggy Kane, Lisa Moughan, and Jill Sharkey presented a
poster session entitled, "Recruiting Distance Students and
Keeping Them on Track" at the Sloan-C Conference.
Client Services Director Tim Foley was elected to a three
year term on the Executive Board of the ACM SIGUCCS (Special
Interest Group on University and College Computing
Services).
With Director for Library Collections and Systems Christine
Roysdon he published “Library Resources to Enhance the
Undergraduate Experience” in the Proceedings of the
2008 ACM SIGUCCS Fall conference. Tim also presented a
poster on the same subject at the fall conference in
Portland.
Client Services Team Leaders Sara Rodgers and Debbie Feldman
presented "One Good Tab Deserves Another - Building
Constituent Portals" at the Gettysburg Portal conference in
June and at the
Pennsylvania Banner Users' Group conference in November in
Grantville.
Sara Rodgers also served as a panelist at the Oracle Open
World Conference in San Francisco during September for the
session, "Identity Management for Higher Education."
Systems Specialist Tim McGeary and Cataloger Doreen Herald
led a presentation titled "Come to the Fiesta: Join the OLE
Project" at PALINET's Annual Conference and Vendor Fair in
October. The OLE Project will produce a design document for
an open source library environment as described in the
September 2008 newsletter.
Library Access Director Sharon Wiles Young, Humanities
Librarian Kathe Morrow, and Bethlehem Public Library staff
co- presented a Poster session at the Pennsylvania Library
Association Conference in November called: “Academic and
Public Libraries: Perfect Partners for Community
Programming”.
Digital Projects Coordinator Julia Maserjian was the keynote
speaker at the Congress of Academic Library Directors of
Maryland this past spring. In October she presented on the
Lehigh University Beyond Steel digital project at the
PALINET Conference session "Communities of Collaboration."
