Editor’s Update
It
has been a joy and a privilege to share the many
accomplishments of Library and Technology Services with the
Lehigh community over the past 14+ years via this
newsletter, LTS Connection.
When we began,
under the organizational name Information Resources, the
newsletter was distributed as a paper edition and involved a
lot more effort. But the change from all print to all
electronic editions, pales beside the huge changes that have
taken place in libraries, networking, computing, teaching,
and learning during that time span. I am pleased that the
back files of the newsletter can serve as a record of that
progression.
Two other
projects that particularly marked my career at Lehigh were
also a great joy and privilege to be involved in: the
introduction of library’s first integrated online library
system (does GEAC ring a bell?) and the transformation of
Linderman Library. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
Having the fun
and challenge of important projects to work on is only
matched by the privilege of collaborating with the highly
competent and supportive people in Library and Technology
Services, and Lehigh University, at all levels: faculty,
students, staff, and many of our vendors and contractors.
I have enjoyed
great leaders, especially Berry Richards and Bruce Taggart
for an extended period of time; dedicated, caring colleagues
way too numerous to mention; and my own very capable,
committed, and ever cheerful staff.
So what’s all
this summing up about? I’m planning to retire during summer
2010 and move on to a new, and hopefully equally exciting,
phase of life. Thank you for listening.
