LU-ALERT Cell Phone
Registration Nears 50%
Over the last three
months, more than 4,260 members of the Lehigh community have
registered their cell phone numbers with LU-ALERT, the
university’s new emergency notification system. This figure
represents nearly 50% of the university community (including
part time graduate students).

According to informal
surveys of peer institutions, participation in voluntary
notification programs (like LU-ALERT) typically falls
between 25-30% so the Lehigh implementation team has been
very pleased with this exceptional level of participation.
In the event of an
emergency, participants will receive a text message
containing specific instructions on the appropriate course
of action. LU-ALERT represents only one facet of a
multi-modal communications plan that will include a variety
of personal and electronic contact options, such as email
bulletins, voice mail broadcasts and a dedicated emergency
web page.
Cell phone numbers
collected through this process are stored in a secure
database and will not be listed in the Lehigh directory or
available on Lehigh’s Web site. It’s never too late to sign
up – just
visit here. For those without a cell phone, there is an
option to sign up for email-only notification on the same
site. Please contact the Help Desk (8-HELP) with any
questions.
