Lehigh Loans Volumes for ASTM Digital Library
The
American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is working
diligently on completing the ASTM Digital Library, a
compilation of all of the journals, manuals, and "special
technical publications" (meetings and papers) published
since the beginning of the organization in 1898.
Many
Lehigh University faculty, staff, and graduates have
contributed to these publications over the years. Recent
years are already scanned and mounted, but much of the
material from earlier years is out of print and even the
Society does not have copies.
Enter
the Lehigh University Libraries to the rescue by loaning
over 100 volumes to the Society, who scanned them and
returned them, intact. In return for our generosity, the
ASTM has given us free access to the ASTM Digital Library.
The ADL
http://enterprise.astm.org/ can be browsed or searched
full text for author, keywords, and even the ASTM Committee
or Symposium topic. Results are displayed with a "narrow
your search" option that categorizes the authors, dates,
sources, or committees most often found.
Accessing an article first displays the copyright agreement
and every page has a copyright statement, a new practice
seen on several publishers' web sites. There are no links to
cited/citing references. The ADL is listed in ASA, on the
Database Finder page at
http://databases.lib.lehigh.edu/finder.
