Parents Adopt their very own Lehigh Portal
In October of 2007, the new Lehigh Parent Portal was
successfully rolled out to parents of first year students.
The parent portal is Lehigh’s campus portal customized with
information targeted to parents. In this first phase of
rollout, parents of first year students received invitations
to open a parent portal account. The parent portal gives
access to campus events and news, and with student
authorization parents can access student records. The parent
portal account does not include email.
To initiate the rollout, Lehigh sent 2300 invitations to
parents of first year students, inviting them to open a
portal account; at the same time, students received
instructions on how to authorize parental access to their
records. The centerpiece of the parent portal is access to
student records. If their son or daughter authorizes access,
parents can view secure information in compliance with the
Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the
E-signature Act of 2004. The categories of information that
parents can view (if authorized) are:
- Financial aid records – checklist, aid transcript,
year aid,
records holds, financial aid notes, awards, academic
progress,
cost of attendance and current status.
- Student Records – mid term grades, final grades,
academic transcript
- Current and former class schedules
- Address information
- Accounts receivable
The student can select none, some, or all categories for
each individual parent. As of January 31, about 620 parents
have opened a campus portal account. Letters were sent to
the parents of sophomores in early February inviting them to
participate.
